Keller installed around 2400 pcs of Ø600 mm and Ø800 mm Lime Cement Columns as ground stabilization for a new apartment building in Langhus. The Lime Cement columns were installed both as single columns and in ribs
The project
Solon Eiendom are planning on building several apartment buildings in Parkveien in Langhus. Betonmast was contracted to do the works and hired Keller as a subcontractor to do the ground stabilization with Lime Cement Columns. The ground had to be stabilized for the future apartment buildings and for a culvert for water and sewage lines.
The challenge
The challenge in this project was mainly the presence of infrastructure in the ground. Hidden sheet piles and water and sewage lines that could not be removed. The lines approximate locations was marked out on the ground before startup and other measurements were taken to ensure the safety of our personnel and the lines.
The solution
Keller established around 2400 pcs of Ø600 and Ø800 Lime Cement Columns with lengths between 2 and 15 meters. The soil was harder than first expected so that we had to reduce the column diameter from Ø800 to Ø600 after a while. Around the mentioned water and sewage line, careful drilling was needed. The columns were executed around the lines with great success. The columns were tested with FKPS where a wing is penetrating the columns from above. The test showed a shear strength of well above the required values. In some columns there was even not possible to get the wing to penetrate all the way due to too high strength in the columns.
